The Ensemble Orbis is specialized in musical creation. Orbis means compass in Latin and carries a particularly inspiring symbolism for the Ensemble, in perpetual search of a utopian cardinal point, of an imaginary journey towards a sound world built by the desires of the composers.
The Ensemble stands out through a plurality of aesthetics represented and by a desire to develop multidisciplinary projects. Starting from an innovative instrumentarium: flute, saxophone, accordion, percussion, electronics and conductor, the ensemble develops a logic of variable geometry, multiplying the sound possibilities and being part of a dynamic and creative contemporary repertoire. Working with electronics is at the heart of its sonic identity. The ensemble develops shows with video, image, dance, theater, while giving significant thought to the scenography and form of the show.
Under the artistic direction of the composer Demian Rudel Rey, the ensemble is nourished by the emulation of an artistic committee composed of personalities from different horizons: Rocío Cano Valiño (composer and interior designer), Lisa Heute (composer and accordionist), and Louis Quiles (percussionist and automated sound object creator). It is mentee by Franck Bedrossian.
Based in Lyon, the Ensemble’s aims to support cultural and artistic mediation projects in a logic of partnership with the various institutions of the regional territory, national and international. The Ensemble Orbis has carried out numerous commissions from various composers. The strong belief in working with artists from all over the world has led to the launch of international projects such as the Festival DME (Portugal), the Rainy Days Festival (Luxembourg), the Delphi Theater (Germany), among others. Furthermore, the ensemble develops shows in France in places such as Périscope, Embassy of Argentina in Paris, OPUS 24.1 Rocher de Palmer (Bordeaux metropolis), Théâtre Le Dôme (Albertville), Théâtre de la Renaissance (Oullins) as part of GRAME’s B!ME 2024…
